October at Island Healthcare: Moments That Matter

October has been a month filled with creativity, connection and community across Island Healthcare. From music and movement to art and adventures, each of our homes found new ways to bring joy to residents and teams alike.

These are the moments that remind us what care truly looks like: everyday togetherness, shared laughter, and simple acts that lift the spirit.

Music and laughter at Hazel Lodge

At Hazel Lodge, a visit from Dave and his saxophone soon turned into a full sing-along. Familiar tunes filled the home as residents and staff joined in together. It was one of those afternoons where you could feel the warmth in the room, proof that a bit of live music can change the whole atmosphere.

Words and rhythm at Westview House

Over at Westview House, residents spent the afternoon blending poetry and song. A group reading followed by a sing-along created a relaxed and reflective space to share stories and smiles.

A trip down memory lane for Highfield House

Residents from Highfield House took a trip to the Bus Museum in Shanklin, finishing with tea and cake. The visit brought back memories of earlier times; it was the kind of simple outing that reminds us how powerful a shared experience can be!

Milestones and movement at Tile House

Tile House added a bit of energy to the month with a Boxer Fit class that got everyone moving. They also celebrated a special milestone: 15 years of service from Head Chef Debbie. Debbie’s dedication and care have shaped countless meals and memories over the years. Congratulations and thank you, Debbie.

Creative sparks at Northbrooke House

Art took centre stage at Northbrooke House as residents painted a school of colourful fish for the Independent Arts Exhibition. Paintbrushes in hand, ideas flowed freely and the results were fantastic. Creativity like this has a special way of bringing people together and giving voice to imagination at any age.

A day at the zoo for The Hub

The Hub team took residents out for a trip to the zoo to see the new bears. It was a day of discovery, laughter and fresh air, the kind of outing that stays with you long after the day is over.

Lots of Lovely Moments

Research shows that shared activities like music and art can lift mood and reduce stress for hours afterwards. But beyond the science, it is about something simpler: creating spaces where residents feel seen, valued and connected.

That is what makes every one of these moments worth celebrating.
