May at Island Healthcare: VE Day, butterflies and a few unexpected visitors
It’s been a packed May across our Isle of Wight care homes.
There’s been VE Day celebrations, trips out, music, gardening, visits to Butterfly World, and even a robin’s nest that became a bit of a talking point at Hazel Lodge.
A good mix, really. Some planned, some unexpected, and all part of the everyday life that makes our homes feel warm, lively and connected.
VE Day celebrations at Northbrooke House and Hazel Lodge
VE Day was marked in style at both Northbrooke House and Hazel Lodge.
At Northbrooke House, Holly helped put together a lovely afternoon filled with singalongs, smiles and plenty of flags being waved about.
Over at Hazel Lodge, family and friends joined residents for a packed afternoon of celebrations. There was a quiz to get things started, before Hannah, The Vintage Song Bird, took over and had the room singing along within minutes. A bit of dancing followed. Then a bit more dancing.
Lots of laughter, lots of music, and a really lovely atmosphere across both homes.
Music at Tile House
Tile House enjoyed an afternoon of music with Dave Lee, who was back with plenty of familiar favourites.
Live music always seems to bring something special into a home. A familiar song, a bit of movement, or just the chance to sit back and enjoy the moment can make a real difference.
Thank you to Dave for coming in.
Butterfly World visits
There were a couple of Butterfly World trips this month, with residents from Brighstone Grange and Highfield House both visits.
Some of the ladies from Brighstone Grange had a lovely day watching the butterflies , spending time out somewhere new and enjoying plenty of conversation along the way.
Highfield House Tours has also been in full swing recently, with a visit to Butterfly World as part of their outings. A nice chance to enjoy a change of scenery and make the most of getting out and about.
Green fingers at Westview House
Westview House has had some green fingers in the garden, with planting underway and the flowers coming on nicely.
It’s always good to see the garden being used and enjoyed, especially as the weather starts to improve. A bit of time outside, a bit of planting, and something to watch grow over the weeks ahead.
Unexpected visitors at Hazel LodgeThere have also been plenty of seasonal moments across the homes.
Hazel Lodge had some very small visitors recently.
A robin decided that the hosepipe hanging on the wall was the perfect place to build a nest. Before long, residents were following the whole journey, from the first eggs appearing to six tiny chicks hatching.
The little ones have now flown the nest, but it was a lovely thing to witness while it lasted. One of those unexpected moments everyone ended up invested in.
