Summer has started at our Isle of Wight Care Homes: June Moments at Island Healthcare
It’s been a warm one recently, so across Island Healthcare there’s been plenty of making the most of the sunshine, finding ways to keep cool, and enjoying a few simple summer moments.
For families looking at care homes on the Isle of Wight, it can be hard to picture what day-to-day life actually feels like. Often, it’s not one big thing. It’s the steady mix of activities, outings, music, movement and quiet moments of care that help a home feel warm and familiar.
Here’s a look at what’s been happening across some of our Isle of Wight care homes recently.
Keeping cool at Northbrooke House
Northbrooke House had a few good ideas for keeping cool during the recent hot weather.
Maria treated residents to cooling foot soaks, relaxing hand and foot massages, and, naturally, a lolly or two. Some residents ended up so relaxed they fell asleep, which is probably a fair sign that it worked.
A lovely bit of care and attention during the warmer days.
Music and movement at Hazel Lodge
Hazel Lodge enjoyed a visit from Ann Abe and Claire for an afternoon of music and dance.
They brought plenty of energy with them and, before long, feet were tapping around the room. A few arms were having a jig too. Residents really enjoyed the routines, the music, and the chance to see something a bit different.
Music, movement and social activities all play a part in creating a lively and connected home environment.
A picnic trip from Highfield House
Highfield House made the most of the sunshine with a trip to Fishbourne and Quarr Abbey for a picnic.
It was a chance to enjoy the fresh air, take in the surroundings, and spend some time somewhere a bit different. Sometimes that is all you need.
Trips out like this are an important part of life in residential care, helping residents enjoy familiar places, fresh air and a change of scenery.
Boxercise at Tile House
Things got a little more energetic at Tile House recently with a boxercise session.
Everyone joined in at their own pace, which is exactly how it should be. We are not quite ready to get in the ring yet, but it was a great way to bring in a bit of movement, fun and energy.
Staying active looks different for everyone, and sessions like this are a good reminder that movement can be enjoyable as well as beneficial.
Everyday life in our Isle of Wight care homes
When families are exploring residential care, dementia care or nursing care, they often want to know what life will really look like for their loved one.
These are the kinds of moments that help show that.
A picnic in the sunshine.
A bit of music and dancing.
A relaxing hand massage.
A few rounds of boxercise.
A lolly on a hot day.
It does not always need to be complicated. Often, the best moments are the simple ones done with care.
Across Island Healthcare, our focus is on creating homes where people feel comfortable, supported and able to enjoy meaningful moments in their own way.
