Gardening and days out on the Isle of Wight: May highlights from aross Island Healthcare care homes

As the days get longer and the sunshine more reliable (mostly!), May brought some fun, energy and celebration across our care homes on the Isle of Wight.

Of course there were meaningful VE Day moments but also lots of time spent outside! With garden blooms and beach walks, it’s been another lovely month filled with activity and days out and about.

Here’s a quick round-up to give you a taste of whats been going on!

VE Day Celebrations Across the Care Homes

Several of our homes came together to mark VE Day this year. It was a time to reflect and also have a bit of fun.

At Northbrooke House, we welcomed visitors from Hazel Lodge for an afternoon of tea, cake, music and laughter. Over at Tile House, there was a lovely celebration of their own. There was plenty of activity at Brighstone Grange too — including a thoughtful poem displayed proudly. Below is a pic of some of the tasty treats we put on at Brighstone Grange!

🌸 Gardening and Sunshine

As the warmer weather rolled in (at least at the start of the month!), many residents made the most of the lovely weather.

  • At Westview House, green fingers were put to good use planting out some flowers.

  • Northbrooke House combined gardening with a spot of alfresco lunch and a classic game of hangman - plenty of activity in the sun! One resident even got outsidee and did a bit of the tricky digging — we appreciate the dedication!

There’s something special about spending time in the garden. Both for residents and staff alike, its a great way to while away the day.

🥊 Boxercise at Tile House

Over at Tile House, residents gave boxercise a go — and, naturally, they rose to the challenge of doing somethign new.

These sessions are a great excuse to get active; they brought a lovely buzz to the staff and all the residents. Stay tuned for the Rocky video montage! Fun classes like this are just one of the many ways we encourage physical activity and fun at the same time.

🌊 A Seaside Stroll at Appley Beach

Westview House residents took a trip to Appley Beach, soaking up the fresh air with a walk along the seafront. So nice to get out and about when the sun shines!

After a gentle stroll, it was time for a well-earned cuppa and snack. Here is a beautiful pic we took!

💡 Why It Matters: The Power of Nature

Did you know that spending time in nature can help slow cognitive decline in adults? Its one of the reasons we love to get out and abuot in nature at Island Healthcare.

Whether it’s a garden activity or a walk on the beach, being outdoors supports brain health It also does a great job of lowering stress, and boosting mood — not to mention how much joy it brings in the moment!
