August Round-Up: Sunshine, Fetes, Fresh Air (and Wetwheels)

August has been a busy month across Island Healthcare! Our care homes and home care services have enjoyed a mix of summer fetes, seaside trips and quieter afternoons of crafts and conversation.

As always, these moments are about more than the activities themselves — they are about connection, friendship and supporting residents to make the most of each day. Here are a few highlights from our homes on the Isle of Wight this month:

Summer Fete at Northbrooke House

Northbrooke House held a summer fete with BBQ food, live music from Maurice and dancing in the sunshine. Families joined in to share the day, and the manager and directors even stepped into the stocks to raise a smile. It was a lovely afternoon that brought the whole community together.

Creative Activities at Hazel Lodge

Hazel Lodge residents kept busy with fan-making and arts and crafts sessions. There was also a trip out to Ryde to watch the motorbikes, which was very popular. A good balance of creativity indoors and fresh air outdoors.

Sailing with Tile House & The Hub

Residents and clients from Tile House and The Hub enjoyed a trip on Wetwheels, an accessible boat experience on the Solent. It was a chance to feel the sea breeze, enjoy the views and spend time together in a different setting.

Blackberry Picking at Brighstone Grange

At Brighstone Grange, residents went blackberry picking and later turned their fruit into a homemade cobbler. There was also a relaxed afternoon of wine tasting in the sunshine, complete with nibbles. Simple activities that brought lots of enjoyment.

Outings with Highfield House

Highfield House residents made the most of the summer with a picnic at Firestone Copse and a busy Cowes Week, where some even took the helm on Wetwheels. The month ended with Shanklin Carnival — a colourful evening of music, lights and atmosphere.

Music and Baking at Westview House

At Westview House, residents enjoyed a sing-along, a painting session, and finished the week by baking cupcakes for National Cupcake Day. Everyday activities like these bring a lot of smiles and a strong sense of community.

Looking Ahead

Across our Isle of Wight care homes, August has been full of variety — from large community events to small, homely moments. Each activity helps residents to stay active, connected and supported in ways that matter to them.

We’d like to thank all our staff, residents and families who made these days so memorable. We’re looking forward to many more moments like these as we move into September!
